PODCAST: the power (and security) of your voice

Listen up: your mobile phone will soon become a portable biometric scanner when it comes to utilising secure technologies.

That’s the insight offered by to Ted Dunstone, CEO of biometric group Biometix, biometric consulting, risk-management and evaluation firm.

Speaking to bluenotes on video and – appropriately – on podcast, Dunstone said in the future mobile devices would come equipped with numerous biometric capabilities which will make things like banking on your phone more secure.

" One of the things you always need to be thinking about with biometrics is vulnerability." Peter Dalton

“Not just your fingerprint,” he said. “Not just your voice. But your face and other sorts of biometrics as well.”

Dunstone said the security aspect of developing biometric technology was critical as it becomes increasingly ubiquitous.

“One of the things you always need to be thinking about with biometrics is the vulnerability aspect,” he said. “And how could somebody defeat it?”

ANZ has unveiled Voice ID capability for mobile banking, offering increased security and allowing customers to easily complete higher-value transactions. With Voice ID, customers can now securely make ‘pay anyone’ payments of more than $A1000 without needing to log into internet banking, visit a branch or remember additional passwords.

The rollout comes after ANZ completed a successful pilot program with the new technology and will be available immediately for customers using the Grow by ANZ app before being rolled out to other digital channels across the bank.

Dunstone also touched on biometrics in voice-command devices and modern application for biometric tech. Watch the video and listen to the podcast above to find out more.
