The humble #vinyl record is back in a big way and global sales are forecast to hit $4 billion by 2030. But the resurgence is so much more than sales figures, with music lovers looking to unplug from an ever more connected life. Music lovers such as Theo Bridge, an ANZ designer who started his own record store Queer Records. Theo say #music and records have helped him learn and tap into a new musical #community – even at ANZ. “This is really a story about communities and people being brought together by their shared passion for music in the face of ubiquitous streaming services,” Theo said. With Record Store Day approaching on April 20, bluenotes spoke to Theo about the significance of the resurgence: https://lnkd.in/gY68jPEe

Australian families eat it two to three times a week. It is said every third US hamburger is made from it. And flourishing Asian markets cannot get enough of it. Australian beef is a critical export for the nation, valued at more than $11 billion dollars in 2023-24. As Beef Australia’s Beef2024 event approaches (May 5 to 11), Michael Whitehead, Head of Food, Beverage and Agribusiness Insights with ANZ, looks at what now for this crucial sector, including new technology, sustainability principles and changing consumer tastes. “𝙄𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙖𝙣 𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙮 𝙬𝙝𝙞𝙘𝙝 𝙞𝙨 𝙖𝙡𝙬𝙖𝙮𝙨 𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙 𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩 𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙠𝙚𝙩𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙠𝙚𝙩 𝙖𝙘𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨,” Whitehead says. Listen to the full podcast here: https://lnkd.in/e2EEA97H

It is election season in two of Asia’s #economic powerhouses. On 10 April about 44 million South Korean voters will determine the composition of its national assembly. From 19 April about 969 million eligible Indian voters will begin casting ballots to determine which party will form the central government and its Prime Minister. ANZ economist Bansi Madhavani, CFA examines what these two crucial polls mean for the economic prospects of both countries – and for the Asian region more broadly. https://lnkd.in/gpMgt33p

Advances in aviation technology have allowed millions of people to fly around the globe with ease. However as the world now focuses on reaching #netzero emissions by 2050, aviation accounts for 2 per cent of global energy-related carbon dioxide (#CO₂) emissions. “This has grown faster in recent decades than rail, road or shipping.” – says @Kris Fumberger, Manager ESG Advisory at ANZ. In his latest article Fumberger explores how ANZ’s 2030 target for the aviation sector will require continuing reductions in the carbon intensity of airlines.

We should never forget the hard lessons that make us better. The tough truths delivered in the final report of the #RoyalCommission into Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation and Financial Services Industry five years ago, continue to help shape the way things are done across ANZ. Stephen Ries, General Manager ESG & Stakeholder Engagement at ANZ, reminds us of how those lessons must be retained, and the mistakes of the past avoided. Ries talked to three people at the centre of ANZ's Royal Commission response - former General Counsel, Bob Santamaria, Regional Executive for the Pacific, Sarah Stubbings, and Head of Lending Services, Corporate & Commercial, Ben Steinberg – for their perspectives on lessons learned and how the bank changed as a result.

It could be an expensive time to be the Easter Bunny. #Chocolate Easter eggs and bunnies have been in the #supermarket aisles for weeks as people gear up for #EasterEgg hunts.   But this year is different after the price of chocolate’s main ingredient soared to new highs.   “Like a chocolate fountain gone haywire, the price of cocoa, the main ingredient in chocolate, has shot up recently. In the past year it has soared from about US$2,600 a tonne to about $9,700 a tonne,” Michael Whitehead, executive director for Agribusiness Industry Insights at ANZ reveals. What does this mean for egg prices … and the family Easter Egg hunt? https://lnkd.in/g-zCpTaf
